Ministry Partners at Magdalen Road Church

Although every member of our church family is involved in God’s mission in the world, we have a number of members engaged in cross-cultural ministry whom we have set aside specifically as ministry partners.  We have commissioned them, covenanted to pray for them and in some cases support them financially.

Pat Brittenden is a researcher, writer, teacher and trainer working with Believers of a Muslim Background across the majority Muslim world. He is an associate lecturer and faculty member of the Institute Chretien d'Algérie, associate tutor on the CMS Pioneers Mission Leadership programme, a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Muslim-Christian Studies, Oxford and director of the Hikma Partnership, a network committed to amplifying the voices of Christians of a Muslim Heritage through research, writing and publishing. Pat is based in south Cambridge with his wife Kitty and their two children (Naama, 20) and Nate (14).

Ida Glaser and David Coffey divide their time between Oxford and Houston, USA.

Ida is involved in teaching, writing and research at the Centres for Muslim Christian Studies in both Oxford and Houston. She also directs a project for producing Bible commentaries from Muslim contexts.
David teaches with Ida and also works in communication and fundraising for the two centres and to support Bible colleges working in majority Muslim contexts.

Peter and Lisa Vernan are bringing Christ’s love to vulnerable people – in asylum seeker detention centres, prisons and in the local community.  Formerly members of Magdalen Road Church, they are now part of Grace Church Cowley and live in Oxford

Jeremy & Joy Fowler

Jeremy studied History in the late 90s here in Oxford and met Joy when she was working at the JR as a nurse. After studying at Oak Hill Theological College, they lived for 11 years with their four children in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where Jeremy ran a language consultancy and Joy worked with women and children, especially with the many families displaced and traumatised by war. After relocating to Oxford, Jeremy now works with a Christian organisation, researching and writing on issues related to Kurds and the Middle East, and also helps pay the bills in expensive Oxford with some domestic window-cleaning. You might bump into him either jogging round town with Headington Road Runners or chatting with Kurdish friends at one of Oxford’s 30 or so Kurdish eateries!
